How to verify your DSCSA trading partners (free FDA lookups)
DSCSA requires pharmacies to deal only with authorized trading partners. FDA points pharmacists to these free lookups (FDA).
Wholesale distributors & 3PLs
FDA Wholesale Distributor and 3PL Reporting database: search facilities that have reported state licensure to FDA. Updated every business day. A downloadable text file is also published.
FDA: "Reporting by a wholesale drug distributor or third-party logistics provider does not mean the facility is licensed or approved by FDA". Also see Check licensure of wholesale distributors and 3PLs and the annual licensure reporting page.
Manufacturers & repackagers
FDA Drug Establishments Current Registration Site (DECRS): check that a manufacturer or repackager is registered.
Pharmacies you buy from or sell to
Check the license with the relevant state board of pharmacy.
A simple routine
- List every supplier you bought prescription drugs from in the last year, including drop-ship manufacturers.
- Look each one up (database above), save a dated screenshot or PDF, and note the license state and expiry.
- Repeat on a set schedule and before adding any new supplier.
- Keep the records with your DSCSA SOPs.
This routine is a suggestion, not an FDA-prescribed procedure.
